Just think... this may be the first time in the history of PT that Win hosts surpass OSX hosts in an area that matters for PT users.
Its been this way since PT went into multicore processing, but people have their preferred OS.

Devs have quite an in depth SDK, its what they choose to implement or skimp on that matters.

I have no idea what is going on with those problems, have not noticed those problems when I played with Pro Tools 11 (I really don't use Pro Tools 11). There sure seems to be problems here and the high order bit is Avid just needs to fix it. My comments were more a reaction to saying things with more explicit process placement may be better. Software that tries to do that often ends up having problems, for one thing it's very hard to debug and test. I've worked with incredibly sophisticated RDBMS code that could do that magic very well (and the developers that did all that were often more OS than application developers), and seen end-user developers tying to use the same tricks and fairly often managing to hurting themselves or decreasing not increase performance. Just an observation. You fix problems by debugging them, I hope Avid has developers working on whatever is broken...

That's a question for Tom, the Mod.

I have been contemplating a 1 month subscription to try it out. Not free but it would help answer my curiosity.

If you're using a Digi 003 or 003R, or just a mouse and an I/O interface, I wouldn't hesitate to move to PT12. IME, the problems with PT12 are mainly related to Eucon.

So curiosity got the better of me.

I purchased a 30day subscription. I uninstalled PT11 and installed PT12.

I see no improvements that make it worthwhile for me to buy my upgrade before December. Load times and the System Usage seem very much same in PT11 and 12.

I was reminded how I wouldn't want to go back to just vanilla.

Dave

At this point, the best way to try Pro Tools 12 is a one month rental. Or you can wait for the new free "Pro Tools First" coming shortly.

If PT12 is supposed to be a version with software hooks for new, upcoming features, Avid should have told us the plans before release. And not have called it PT12 with so little improvements. It may become 12 after the new features are added but not yet. You don't change version numbers for future enhancements.

I still haven't seen any "What's New" information for 12. If there were "under the hood refinements", what were they?

"Improved threading mgmt in PT12"

I really wish people wouldn't start threads like this. There's no evidence for any improved threading and no literature anywhere to back this assertion up. If the OP really thinks this is true, he should submit a video showing an A/B comparison on a site like youtube so we can all see the differences for ourselves. In my experience there is no discernible operational difference between PT11 and PT12. I booted up this computer this morning and totally forgot I using the wrong OS drive - was using PT11 for a good few hours before I realised I wasn't on PT12.
