PT 10 for PC on XP?
Does anyone know an unofficial, unsanctioned way to install PT10 on Windows XP?
While not sanctioned, PT could be installed (with a warning) on XP up through v9.0.3, and so I was able to run PT9 on my XP (second) computer. But I gave up my version 9 license when I upgraded to v10, and now I can't run PT on that computer any more. Please don't suggest I upgrade the OS on that computer. Won't happen. It's rarely used these days, and I would never want to re-install the many apps and plugins that reside there. Thanks in advance for any help, Dean |

Thanks for the response. I feared as much. Pity, I actually felt PT9 worked better in XP than Win7. Oh well.

Re: PT 10 for PC on XP?
OF COURSE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND USER BEWARE!!!
I have PT10 running on 2 laptops that I use for tracking. in order to do so I used Orca to modify the install package to allow it to install on XP. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(v=vs.85).aspx I learned how to do this to get Itunes working on a 64bit version of XP years ago. Principles held true for ProTools. https://skunkwerks.wordpress.com/200...indows-xp-x64/

Re: PT 10 for PC on XP?
How does one get a copy of Orca? I'm not uncomfortable modifying an install EXE.
Thanks very much for your help! Dean Quote:

But to get orca I had to use the SDK link in this post: https://skunkwerks.wordpress.com/200...indows-xp-x64/ The section of installing ITunes steps 3 -6 provided me the link and fundamental principles to be able to alter PT10 to install on XP. Let me know if you have any other questions. Dave

I agree with all your comments. Its just I really like the form factor of the RME cardbus/digiface combo for a portable laptop live tracking rig. The PCMCIA card doesn't extrude and the cable locks. More secure than any USB, FireWire, express card or thunderbolt option available. Problem is XP is the only OS that has drivers that allow the PCI bus to handle 24/24 channels at 64 buffer for the rme gear. I've tried win7 and win8 on the laptops, in both audio starts crapping out at 15 channels. Sooner or later ill need to upgrade hardware, but if it ain't broke why fix it? Especially if the upgrade will be a less secure connection for the audio interface. Dave

Re: PT 10 for PC on XP?
Please don't lecture me about OS choices. I wasn't asking for your opinion of XP.
Since you offered yours, I will offer mine. XP was a better OS for music. Many people who upgraded their system to Win7report approximately double the system latency in Win7 and Win7x64 than they did XP. For me, when I bought a new, much more powerful system it should have been many times faster than my old XP system. Yet with Win7 I had to go through hell to get the latency down to where it is reliable for audio. Some drivers just don't work right. |

Re: PT 10 for PC on XP?
Thank you. I was hoping to avoid downloading (and presumably installing) the whole SDK, but I may have to bite the bullet.
Again, thanks. Dean Quote:
