Quick Time Video = System Delay with Playback?
I'm new to the post world so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm working on my second project with a quick time video and am curious why sessions with video have such a long lag between start and stop playback commands?
I'm running Os 10.6.2 with PT 8.0.3cs1 on and HD3 Accel rig. My Mac Pro is a 2 x 2.8 quad core intel Xeon with the stock graphics card. Is there something I need to upgrade with my graphics card... maybe a playback engine setting issue? H/W buffer 512 7 processors 90% CPU usage

Re: Quick Time Video = System Delay with Playback?
It's probably the codec that the QuickTime movie is using. It's likely Sorenson or H.264 with keyframes far apart.
You'd be best to export to motion-jpeg or DV. You can use QTPro or MPEG Streamclip to do that. |

Re: Quick Time Video = System Delay with Playback?
I think you'll find that some QT codecs are worse than others. H.264 is the worst because it takes more processor power to decode where as a DV stream is a larger file size but is less processor intensive.

this has been covered here a zillion times. d;-)
go to system preferences/sound/output: choose internal instead of your digi hardware. |

Re: Quick Time Video = System Delay with Playback?
You´re welcome! It is true though that the H.264 codec is a cpu hog, as stated by the other posters.
But there seems to be H.264´sand H.264´s. One editor delivers me H.264´s that are far better working with my cpu. He told me he lowers the data rate per second, upon export. I guess there are various options that can make the file be easier on the cpu. cheers/ arvid |
