One other thing to be careful of, is floppy authorizers. The beige G3’s had built in floppy disk that worked fine for this, but the G4’s require a special external USB floppy. iirc, there were only 3 models that worked, they needed the right extension as well... the first floppy authorized plugin I ever owned was soft samplecell, and I ruined the floppy authorizer using the wrong usb floppy drive. Fortunately, digidesign replaced it with an ilok license, but not all os9 plugins made it to ilok (lexiverb is one of my favorite os9 plugs, it never had an ilok version)... and I doubt any manufacturer will help you with converting floppy auths to ilok at this point.

Also some of the old iLok auths if you still find them were delivered on a sim card that was stucked in original iLok1 which is prone to break. New keys haven't had that feature (thank god) and if the license has already converted from sim card to iLok account obviously you don't need that sim card anymore.

Some weird things we had to do two decades ago.

Here's some info for putting OS9 on that machine.

Might be worth checking this site for files you need. I think they have os9 images too

Ok, so far, I have A Mix Plus system working on G4 400.

Mac OS 9.2.2
Pro tools 5.2

Is 5.2 the last Pro tools version for OS 9?
or did PT 5.3, work with Mix Hardware?

I was always under the impression that 5.1.3 was the last os9 version for MIX, while 5.2 was for LE and 5.3.1 added support for HD cards. But looking back it’s still a bit fuzzy....

In the Digidesign Product Compatibility Document Archive — May 2006 & Earlier Only at http://archive.digidesign.com/support/ you can still find the original Digidesign:
  • Compatibility Archive
  • Downloads Archive
  • Technical Document Archive
  • Answerbase Archive
  • Tech Support Archive
  • Customer Service Archive
It goes all back to even PT 4 on Nubus Macs, Session 8, SampleCel Il, MasterList CD, Sounddesigner II, etc.

After all those years this archive is still a real goldmine for anyone active with old Digidesign hard- and software (however some links are broken)

Yes, great resource there.

Pro tools 5.2 was the Rocket Network version, works with OS 9.
It installs a bunch of useless extensions..
I dropped back to 5,1,3cs11.
All working good on G4 800
