Differences in i7 processors
Forgive me if this is in the wrong place, but looking for solid information. I have an ASUS X99 2011-v2 motherboard Im giving to a friend, but having an awful time finding a cpu for it (the one that WAS on it is on my Gigabyte board.) Is there a physical difference between a 2011, 2011 v-2, and a 2011-3 cpu, or do those all fit the same socket? Not finding ANYONE selling 2011 v-2 processors.
Second question. Will a compatible XEON processor work well with Pro Tools? Thanks in advance! |

Re: Differences in i7 processors
If you go to the Asus website and look up that mobo, you should be able to find a list of approved processors that fit(might have to dig into the motherboard manual) They also usually have a list of approved RAM too

Re: Differences in i7 processors
Yep been there and looked. I actually have the hard-copy manual still, too. Funny thing is, if I copy/paste one of the qualified processors into a google search, they tend to turn up as v3 processors. Color me confused....

Re: Differences in i7 processors
Maybe try PCPartpicker. Make sure to select the exact same motherboard.

Re: Differences in i7 processors
My memory clearly isn’t what it used to be. (Pun intended.) The ASUS board is a 2011-v3 socket, not v2. Amazing things happen when you re-read the manual.
