+1 I'm wondering the same thing... Still using a digi 002 console... and pissed that I can't do the black lion mod anymore - they stopped doing consoles... kinda wishing I had never purchased it... yea had the wire harness fault etc... replaced that... now considering upgrading my platform to the new cpu's not sure about the new intels I've been running amd's dual core 939's on an asus a8v so it's a costly jump to a bunch of unknown factors... Where can I see an approved set of components - and will it be a problem running legacy 002 hardware?

doh! didn't see this... http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=238426

Hello!

I signed in to this forum some months ago because I was having clock issues with my midi stuff using mbox mini on a Intel Core 2 processors laptop (PC with XP). I tried all the hotfixes and everything that was suggested and eventually nothing worked.

Since we are doing demos for our next album as we speak, and it's kind of crucial that I can work on the drum parts (I use midi) without the tempos going bananas, I am thinking of treating myself nicely and getting a desktop ready that will work flawlessly with my mbox and protools le 7.3

I see there's been a lot of suggestions here but they seem pretty old posts so if anyone feels like lending a musician brother a hand, could you please specify what components I need to order to Santa Claus this christmas?

Cheers!

Jonathan

Is anyone running PT 8 LE on an AMD CPU? I was considering build a new machine with a Phenom II x6 CPU with 8gb of ram and wanted to know what you thought about the performance. I know many people talk about i7 but the AMD is a little more affordable for me.

No. I'm not running AMD. But I am running an Intel Core 2 Quad with PT8. Much more affordable build at this point vs. I5 or I7. You can only use DDR2 RAM as opposed to the latest and greatest DDR3, but this is really insignificant in most user cases. Mine runs great with dual channel RAM, and I regularly run 32 track sessions with plug-ins galore.

So, I don't know enough about AMD to be a help, but just search the Avid site to make sure this AMD CPU is compatible. If it's not listed, it might still work fine but is not (yet) supported.

Have been reading this thread because am about to change from Windows to a new Mac. But can anyone answer a simple question which doesn't seem to be dealt with in the knowledge base or the literature - does the license let me install ProTools on this new machine or do I have to re-register, uninstall from the PC or whatever?

Knock yourself out - install Pro Tools on as many computers as you like, Mac or PC. For any version under 9x, Pro Tools won't work without a Digidesign/Avid interface attached to the computer. For 9x and above, Pro Tools won't open without the iLok with the PT license on it attached to the computer.

Cheers,

Hey guys, get me up to speed here. I've already posted in another thread that I am finally upgrading my ancient PT system (001, win xp, Allenstein etc).

I am obviously going to have a new computer with Win 7. What am I going to need to do here to get started without back-reading this entire thread?

I'm on the fence right now with the i/o hardware - considering both the 003 or the Focusrite Saffire 40 which looks pretty good too.

Got some info and advice for me??
