“Though I can't disclose any exact dates just yet; keep your ear to the ground as we are looking to launch an updated version with increased compatibility, extremely soon”.

I'd definitely bet on a paid upgrade. Question is how much - if they adjust to modern plugin pricing or not. I'm not saying it should be $29 but $500 is not reasonable.
