Voltage
Controlled
Amplifier

Conventually it's a way of controlling many channels with one fader (SSL and the 80s/90s Yamaha live desks)

In Pro Tools in a standard group you move one fader they all move. In a VCA group you can ride the faders individually but also control all of them with a VCA Master. Drums being a prime example of VCA usage

So the big plus to VCAs is the ability to change the level of a single track within the group without having to disable the group (like I normally have to do with "standard groups")?

Gotcha.

Its a control only group. No audio goes through it. The separate faders can be bussed anywhere.
