I am on the board for a local non profit and have a friend who is a corporate lawer. We hung out one night after a meeting and I told him about what Avid is doing in regards to the student liscense. He told me it would be very easy to bring a class action lawsuit against Avid if there are enough users willing to join.

He said I could sue and there is no doubt I would win solely based on Avid historical timeline of releasing paid updates.

He said either of the two lawsuits would force Avid to give a refund, plus cover legal expenses.

Time for a bump, while I grind my teeth. Not the bump and grind I prefer ;-)

Southside, how about an on-topic comment? ;-)

Is post 1 just too much? Too complex? Badly worded? Or just too much information for most students to be bothered reading through/commenting on, and of absolutely jo interest to non-students who might otherwise make the effort to read that essay?

IMO there are a few significant questions that need answering/ambiguities that need clarification.

Bump.

Thanks Nigel for bringing this up. I had stepped away from the DUC and Avid News for a while (funny how graduate courses take up all your free time) and was coming back to the DUC to read up on the new support subscription plans, etc. etc. and was just starting to wonder about my Student Version of Pro Tools 10. I fall under the 4 years of free upgrades, and so naturally I started to ponder what will happen, what to expect, and what to prepare for with the new plans, terms, and deals Avid has announced.

I'm still trying to catch up with everything and really first want to thank you for posting this question. It is a very valid post and would have taken me a couple months to figure out it wasn't addressed... so thank you for the detailed inquiry / post.

If there isn't something up by the time NAMM rolls around, I'll ask Avid about it in person... and report back of course.
