Default "Expanding Tree"?

What the hell is this? I have a task manager window open with several lines that say this and a status bar that isn't moving. This is a truly new one. What is an expanding tree? I have to do a hard restart.

P.T.11.3.2.
Let's forget about 'Avid Everywhere' and unexpand the damn tree - OK Avid? Make this work already.

I got the same. But does not affect the session, no need to quit/restart. Just unknown stuff. Could be documented, though.

Old thread, but I'll answer (since I'm dealing with similar problem). "Expanding tree" or "obtaining folder contents" happen the you have a workspace window open. It's contents have to be catalogued to display all their metadata in the workspace window. SO, if you have any workspace window open (behind edit/mix windows etc) the current folder get's catalogued. If it has a lot of files, it can take a while and WILL slow your system down. What I don't understand is why it has to re-catalogue every time. I thought the database files maintained this info so it would have to do it every time. When I'm flying around the workspace searching for stuff it's quite annoying.
