Default Have PTLE 7.1, Bought a used MB2Pro and 7.1.2 update won't install

I have been using an MBox2 and PTLE 7.1 for years on XP (AMD Athlon 64 4400 X2 with 4 GB of Ram) and just bought an MBox2 Pro. I downloaded the 7.1.2 update to run the Pro, but when I try to install the update, this is what I get:

The Installer cannot locate a valid installation of Pro Tools LE on this system. And so on!

Any ideas on how to get this installed!

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Yeah Yeah, I know....I am building a new PC and I've bought half of the parts to a tricked out i7-3770K with 32GB Ram. Then I will crossgrade to PT 10/11. It's only money! LOL

Thanks Peeps!

I would start by installing the drivers for the Mbox 2 Pro:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/d...-2-Pro-Drivers

And see if that helps.

Also, the error you mentioned can show up if you have moved the Pro Tools application from the default install location on your C drive.

There is a Pro Tools LE 7.1.2r2 Update for Mbox 2 Pro on Windows XP, but it requires the software that originally came with the Mbox 2 Pro.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for responding and pointing me in the right direction!

I downloaded the drivers and installed them. They are loaded and the Pro is recognized, but as a standalone. When I try to launch PTLE 7.1, It tells me to make sure my device is attached and click OK when that is done. IT IS ATTACHED! LOL It won't let me open PTLE.

Then I tried to install the 7.1.2 update... NOT!

I'm stuck somewhere in Sunny LIMBO! I need an umbrella drink. Tequila works!

I don't understand where the 7.1.2 update can be used if it can't be added to 7.1. I have the software that came with the Pro as well, but the iLok didn't come with the used bundle I bought, so I figured I'll just use the software I have installed that is registered to me. Uninstalling and reinstalling is such a hassle and opens the door to unforeseen problems on a system that runs quite well. I don't need no stinkin' hassles!

I hope there is a next step!

Please advise!

Thanks again!

Regards//Keith

Hi Darryl,

On my C: Drive (system), In the Programs Folder, is the Digidesign Folder with Pro Tools (and everything else related) being a part of it. However, My E drive is where I write all the audio files.

Might I need to move that temporarily?

Thanks for helping get to the bottom of this (Top really)

Hi Dave,

This used MBox2 Pro was shipped with PTLE 7.3 and an additional 7.3.1 updater disk. I am trying to get it to run on my PC with Win XP using PTLE 7.1, but the update for PTLE I downloaded from AVID, to include what the "Pro" needs, doesn't want to load.

What Bruce said is starting to sink in.....

Now that I am thinking it through, what I get from his response is that there is NO UPDATE that I can download to get PTLE 7.1 to include the MBox2 Pro.

If I don't have PTLE loaded that shipped with the MBox2 Pro, I am SOL The Update 7.1.2 is to fix the known bugs that came with the PTLE 7.1 software that shipped with and includes the Pro.

I did download and install the drivers so I can at least use it as an interface for Reaper. LOL

Hopefully, I am wrong and there is a better answer than this.

I have fallen into the cracks.

Thanks everybody!

Sorry, I saw "MBP" and just assumed it was MacBookPro

I would just install 7.3. Other things to consider: if you found a deal on the second-hand market for 7.4 or LE8, you would gain a lot of goodness. 7.4 introduced Elastic audio(which gets a lot of use here) and 8 added Elastic Pitch and some solid instrument plugins(MiniGrand and DB-33 are very good). Just thinking out loud
