Default Email warns Upgrade Plan has expired or is expiring soon when it isn't

I just got this email from Avid:

"Pro Tools User:

We hope you enjoyed receiving 12 months of Pro Tools upgrades through your All Access upgrade plan. Your current plan may have already expired or is due to expire soon. If your plan has not expired, please renew your All Access upgrade plan through your Avid reseller or your Avid Master Account to continue to receive the latest updates.

Note: If your plan has already expired or you choose not to renew your plan, you will stop receiving software updates. However, your Pro Tools perpetual license will continue to work for the last version received. You can reinstate an upgrade plan after it expires by purchasing an Upgrade Plan Reinstatement for Pro Tools.

Thank you,

The Avid Team"

...The thing is, my plan is supposed to expire/renew next november. Why did I get this message? And I just checked, we also got the same msg at work, and the plan will renew (supposedly) next november as well.

Slightly confused I have to say. 7 months is "soon"?

Default Is Avid just disorganized or trying a cash grab?

My Annual Upgrade Plan is valid until 9/4/16 yet I just received an email from Avid that reads in part:

"Your current plan may have already expired or is due to expire soon. If your plan has not expired, please renew your All Access upgrade plan through your Avid reseller or your Avid Master Account to continue to receive the latest updates."

My understanding is that if I were to renew now I would only get 12 months, not 12 months plus the 5 months I still have left on my plan.

So is Avid just typically clueless or are the trying to squeeze some free money out of users?

I find this incredibly annoying, but it happens with any type of subscription, right off the top of my head:

Keyboard Magazine (this has been happening for 25 years)
Paid Dating Sites
Anti-Virus subscription.

They start sending messages to renew months (sometimes 9 months) before the current subscription has expired. Giant PIA. I have complained many times to no avail, this is what everyone does.

Since my PT upgrade contract ends in December 2016, I should be getting my renewal notices soon!

And then, when you DO renew, the chance of the new asset making it into your I-lok account is iffy at best, and you're dead in the water til they fix it. Not a good way to do things, IMHO.

If you renew via your Avid account under your products, it shows the new expiration date correctly - 1yr from your current expiration. Mine currently expire in July 2016 and if I purchase it there it shows the new expiration date as July 2017. You can check it out without purchasing. I think some are purchasing new plans rather than renewing existing. There is also area to enter "Support Renewal Code" if you get it from a third party.

Funny you say that. When I bought my first subscription last year, I decided to not wait until December 31 (when my update stream would have ended) to do it and take the chance that the server would be bogged down and I'd see the price nearly double. So now, my subscription ends on December 14th. So they took the two weeks.

Didn't they? I would be careful renewing so soon. I think that going forward, they need to earn my business.

I agree. I just got the same email today and had to quick check my purchase email. It was on November 27th, 2015

Little too early to be calling for renewals.

Also, the fact that I am seeing a bunch of 12.5 issues does not make me want to "upgrade" any time soon.
