Cubase does audio very well as well :)

The problem might not be as clear to everyone. And it might be even Cubase Eucon connector related, but the best way I can describe it:

On both my artists only top knob 1 (not 2-8!) has this weird behavior
- the behavior ONLY is with CLOCKWISE rotations, COUNTER CLOCKWISE they work fine.
- Turning slow clockwise more or less works as expected (cover <90degrees maximum in one grip, turning slowly)
- turning faster (turning 180degrees from 0-64 in one turn) feels like rowing against the stream, turning up to 20 jumping back to 10, turning slower to 50 jumping back to 40 etc, you will need at least 2 full physical 360 knob rotations to get there.
- where you can turn knob 2-7 fully clockwise in one go, you will need four or 5 full rotations to get there with all the jumping back on encoder 1

counterclock wise (feels like downhill) is no problem, only clockwise, strange no?

Hi Eddie,

Yes, in test mode all knobs react at the same pace and there is no jumpiness when dialing faster, when dialing slow I can get from 0 to +128 in 3 turns, dialing a bit faster it needs 4.5 turns, this is the same for all knobs in test mode.

Are you in channel mode or not (does this make a difference to that knob)

Hi Eddie, good observation, it seems more jittery in CHA mode.
It’s like you called out in the other topic as well skipping values when turning “to fast” the only difference with encoder 2-8 being that on both units enc. 1 jumps back into value when doing this. And only doing this clockwise, can’t get it to jump “up” while turning counterclockwise.
It seems that it would have something to do with resolution, or flooding of values which it seems to deal differently with than the other encoders.
It’s probably not the case, but might it be that either how encoder 1 deals with values differs from 2-8 in the driver, or some other signal is leaking into the encoder 1 datapath, causing the jitter?
It might even be that it’s in the Steinberg EUCON connector?
Just thinking out loud here.

Last but not least, I also feel there is still room for improvement in encoder acceleration behaviour. I would consider the current behaviour slow, having to travel nearly 1000 degrees to go from -128 till +128
I would love to see a faster mode, when turning fast travel from -128 till +128 while travelling only 360 degrees free of jitter and jumpy behaviour. Providing a more physical pot feel, rather than an endless encoder with slow travel

On my surfaces here knob 1 works the same as the rest. What model are your mixes ? Can I get serial numbers so I can try find some units around the same time ?

Any easy way to read the serial numbers without turning the units upside down?
