Hello everybody

I have a question about filmsound equipments.
I just getting start into it so I don't know much about the stuffs. especially synchronise stuffs. could you please educate me about them...here is my question...

1 What is the equipments that I have to put in my studio. please give me a compact set which good for start and easy to expand in the future.

2 Which Recorder you guys recommend, dat or disc or minidisc. (I think I don't need recorder which have time code for now) this recorder I'll use for record ambient, foley, sfx,...

3 which microphone is good to start with? how many do I need for begining?

4 which speaker is not so expensive but good for 5.1

now I already have 2 computers (Mac G5 dual 1.8, PC P4) I will get 002r and DV toolkit soon. now I have budget around 5,500 Canadian dollar. Please help me make a decision.

To be honest, I don't think you can do it with $5,500...even if it were US. You can make a good start though.

Assuming you already have a Pro-Tools rig, you'll need:

VTR's: Find a used 3/4" deck. Most clients will still be able to deliver on 3/4" and it's better than 1/2" (VHS) and a lot less expensive than Beta or DV. (if you can get a DV deck DO IT!)

Video: You'll need a way to run your NLV. I'm still using the old DC30+ card, but that won't work with your system. I'll let someone else recomend what to get.

Recorder: Look for a used DAT recorder for gathering SFX. You'll also want to find a used DTRS (DA88 or DA98, etc) with SMPTE.

Mic: Start with an MKH60 or MKH416. Remember that ambient FX are stereo and you'll need a stereo mic for that. I'd recomend renting your mics untill you have more money to buy one. (Also by renting, you can check out different mics and choose one you like best when it comes time to buy.)

Monitors: Oh goodness I can't remember the names right now. Anyway, the small powered JBL's are good. But there are others out there as well. Go shopping and find the ones that sound best to you for what you can afford. Remember that if you're doing 5.1 you'll also need a 5.1 monitor controller.

Library: You'll want to invest in some SFX libraries. I'd start with Sound Ideas 6000 series and/or the Hollywood Edge Premier Editions.

Plug-Ins: You'll want some good reverbs and EQ's.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head... I know there's more, and I'm sure as you start, you'll discovered what we've missed...
