How important is it to disable the auto-update and auto-sleep features in Mac OS X???

Very.

The Software Auto Updates feature can install new versions and/or additions to the OS that have not been tested and approved by Digidesign. They can potentially cause your Pro Tools system to not work correctly.

The sleep function can cause Pro Tools to misbehave as well if it zonks out at the wrong time.

Apple plans no updates to OS9.2.2, other updates would be for software such as itunes, Quicktime, etc., and will cause you no problems.

If your computer goes into sleep mode during a session Protools will most likely freeze, your computer will lock up, and you will lose whatever data you did not save.

Hope this is helpful.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">One little nifty thing that I figured out is that you can get away with letting your monitors sleep with no problem. Just go into the Control Panel>Engery Saver(in OS 9 at least) and choose to set different sleep times for your monitors and processor. Set the processor to "never" and set the monitors to whatever you want them to be.
