shadow of region appearing above selected region!?!

this is freaking me out! i'm pretty much a novice on pro tools really, whenever i select a region (audio or midi) a mirror of that region appears above it in shadow form. what the hell am i doing wrong? i'm sure it's probably something i've turned on by mistake? i'd really appreciate some advice, i've been hours on this mix!!!!

oh! the last thing i did was import some audio that i'd messed around in kontakt with

What do you mean by "above it?"

if i click anywhere in the edit window it repeats what i'm trying to do a centemitre or so directly above where i'm clicking. let's say i'm selecting a section of audio, the selection will appear that distance directly above it. sorry i'm not too hot on explaining myself here.......
