Default Digi 002 can\'t record at 128 Buffer??

I can't record even just 8 tracks without the buffer set at least to 256. When I set the buffer to 128 the audio cuts out about every 8 seconds for about one second. I don't have to be recording to hear the audio cut out, it happens just monitoring without recording. Watching the CPU usage meter in windows task manager I can see the CPU spike every time the audio cuts out. The CPU usage in PT is very low though. Any ideas?

I was afraid someone would say that. I've been avoiding that, but I've done everything else I can think of. I didn't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling all of my stuff.

If it happens just monitoring, when not recording, I wouldn't jump right on reformatting. I'd investigate what's causing the CPU spike. Windows Task Manager can help you figure that out.

What about headphone mixes? Also, when I try to record the full 18 tracks, the audio starts to cut out at the 256 buffer.

Actually the 256 worked and the audio doesn't cut out at the 256 setting, even with the full 18 at once. But why can't I record at 128? I was hoping even 64 after moving from an 001. Not even two tracks at 128.

What kind of processor and memory do you have? What kind of firewire port do you have(pci or mobo)? I have been able to record up to 16 tracks at a time and my buffer stays parked at 64.

I have an Asus Motherboard (sorry don't know which number right now), Pentium 4 2.8GHz, and the adaptec 4300 firewire card. I think I'm just going to wipe the drive and start with fresh installs of windows and PT. I've been trying to slim down this CPU (Sony Vaio with all kinds of misc stuff and an annoying 10G partition), but I really think I should just start over.
