Default Can we use Aux IO to have system output come from monitors when Pro Tools is running?

I used Source Nexus before. Had Source Nexus on tracks in PT and set MacOS output to Source Nexus. But now Source Nexus crashes the new version of Pro Tools. Is there a way to use Aux IO and set the system sound output to use one of all these Pro Tools Audio Bridge things?

Yes.

You can find lots of videos to guide you through it if you’re having trouble.

But, unless you’re on an HD system, most Core Audio interfaces are multi client. I’ve been using my interface with half a dozen apps (inc. PT) running at the same time for many many years. My typical daily workflow has PT, RX and system audio running simultaneously.

I’m on an HD system. Avid HD Omni interface with an HD Native box. The videos I’ve seen so far doesn’t seem to work for me. I made an Aux IO in Pro Tools, made a track with the IO as the input then set the system output in macOS to the same IO and no sound.

Historically, Avid hasn't made this easy for HD users. Many route digital outs from their computer into their interface, which is what we did for a few years, but that has always seemed like a silly workaround for moving digital audio around the machine.

With 2022.9 you can now have your Mac send system output to the Aux IO and create a track in PT which listens to that Aux IO. I keep one in my template. This works well. I'm not sure why you're not getting the same result but it's likely a simple tweak. Are you certain that the IO you're selecting as the Mac's output is the same as you're selecting in PT? There's not supposed to be much to it beyond connecting these two pathways.

Source Nexus is what we use(d) for post sessions but it's unreasonably expensive and now obsolete.

Source nexus was what I used up until this broke. Would you mind sharing how you have your aux up track set up? I have done it according to the video and set my system output but it doesn’t work. No sound.

Here’s a good startup breakdown for Aux IO.

https://youtu.be/D1UPXfSjiJM

What OS are you running? You need to be on at least Big Sur.

Monterey. I saw that video. It is just, it just doesn’t work. I cannot for the life of me understand why.

Edit: typed the wrong Mac OS version at first.

It doesn’t work because you’re running Mojave. It only works on Big Sur and higher.

I shoulda caught that in your signature. As mentioned above, the hurdle is your OS. You're a couple iterations behind the minimum for Aux IOs.

Damn it. I meant Monterey. The latest version.
