I given up with 12.5 and gone back to 12.4.
OMFs were importing fine for me, it's just the AVE which seems to be very unstable.

Sadly, no. I'm still jumping through hoops with support. I'll reply back when I have something useful to post!

just as anecdotal evidence I just completed a project for a major network and had 2 rooms running DNX145 video wrapped in Quicktime off NAS storage and we experienced zero hiccups or video errors jumping between multiple sessions and videos a day, machines were running for 16 hours straight and never had to restart or relaunch pro tools

Yeah, I'm having great performance with AVE too. 12.5 seems to have a much improved video engine. Give up on the long GOP guys.

I used to use MPEG Streamclip but recently switched to ffmpeg which is several times faster. It seems to be able to use multiple cores much more efficiently. I'd say it is at least 4x faster than MPEG Streamclip when transcoding a 50 minute h264 movie to DNxHD35.

Regarding h264, I'm not an expert on codecs but my understanding is that the performance variation in PT is based on how the key frames were encoded. If every frame is a key frame then it works pretty well, but then the file is about as big as a DNxHD file, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of using h264 in the first place. The lower the frequency of keyframes, the smaller the file will be but the more computing power will be required to decode the movie so takes longer to decode each frame, which bogs down PT.

I'm using a BM Decklink Extreme card, driver v10.6, in Yosemite with PT12.5HD and the only issues I'm having with video are that with the last BM driver update the video sync offset increased from 8 quarter frames to 28 and there is now a very short delay between the time I hit play and when the picture rolls. I'd say maybe 1/4 second. Other than those minor things I have no issues with AVE.

I'm one of 5 guys at String & Can, a small audio-post house in NYC.
We have a total of 8 studios (5 home studios where we do most of our work before meeting clients for screenings in the 3 big ones), almost all of our systems had problems playing back video (stuttering) after installing 12.5.

After MUCH reading here, testing of different configurations and a couple of calls to Avid, it was obvious to me that 12.5 was the problem: essentially, videos that were playing fine before were not anymore..with nothing else changing.

Avid, you say "many video" issues were fixed with 12.5, it was worse for us in 5 different systems (two 2013 MacPro's, three 2010 MacPro's) and they ALL worked just fine after going back to 12.4.

Looking forward to testing 12.5.1 on a secondary unit..

Just to report that in Win 7 12.5 immeasurably superior in video, a number of bugs that damn near drove me to violence got fixed. I'm guessing the 12.5 video issues reported here are Mac related - reading back of these threads, its shame more people don't put basic specs in their sigs.

12.5 has many other issues though, it crashes more than 12.4 and reports occasional playback stalls. Still for me it's better than 12.4 though, one more day of the 1 frame or less video bug that's been there since 11 and I'd have given my rig a bullet to the head.
