Unhappy long time problem with "duplicate" keyboard shortcut

hey DUC, this is a huge newb question that ive held out in fears of getting flamed, but please bear with me..
Ive been using protools since v 7.1, and have always been stumped as to why that particular key command(command+D) has never worked for me( even then ). it would help me out editing a great deal. Ive made sure that command focus is turned on,and have" use all f1 f2 etc keys as standard function keys" checked. i have disabled my computer going to sleep, and disabled my quick corners. I have a first gen macbookpro and am running a digi002 with a 1TB WD external HD.
whats even more odd about this is that if i use the drop down menu, the duplicate function works fine. doing it that way just wouldn't speed up my workflow.
i know it sounds like a silly question, but any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated. Thanx
i neglected to mention that as of yesterday, i had another PT user come over with his mbox and macbook, and his command shortcut worked. mine seems to only copy to the clip board rather than duplicate forwards. its an odd anomaly.

With respect, regarding PC, Ctrl isn't Start and Shift ain't Alt. The functionality of Modifiers modifies the normal action of any given keyboard.

Regards.

Had a user with an inexplicable Command+Space problem... He solved it himself in the end, so read through, maybe it will help..

So you're saying musicalavtech that Apple+D duplicates?

Yes Filo, according to the mac shortcuts. Command (Apple) + D is for duplicate. What is the PC equivalent?

The 'Apple' and 'Command' keys are the same thing.

A bit of history on that...
