Default Monitoring a track during playback

I recently had to format my hard drive, because, it was simply time to do so. Anywhoo, upon re-installing PTMP, I found that I can no longer monitor a track that I have armed to record, DURING playback. When the mix plays back, the instrument that I want to play along with (not record yet) is no longer heard, and I figure that there is a problem, because one needs to monitor a track to get a feel for what they want to accomplish in any given mix. Thanks ahead for any help I can get.

Are you in Auto Input or Input Only monitoring mode?

Information about record monitoring modes, and how to set them, can be found in Chpater 11 of the Pro Tools Reference guide.

The guide is available from the help menu within the program, from the windows start menu, and free online here.

Yeah i have a similar problem with my pro tools m-powered. I have a firewire 410 and I just finally got everything up and running for the first time 2 nites ago and i recorded an audio track to test it. when i played the audio track it showed the meters going up and down but there was no sound. Also when i try to preview a sound from one of my folders that contains samples in it, it shows the meters but again no sound. The preview for the samples does play in my headphone jack from my 410 though, but not on the computer and the audio does not play at all. I've looked ar multiple threads and cannot find any advice that is helping me. What is the problem with it?

How are you monitoring the audio output? Speakers plugged into the 410? Headphones only?
What is the output of the audio track set for?

My setup right now is my 410 into the firewire port of my computer and my motif hooked into the front of the 410, and then I am trying to hear what I have recorded on the computer thru my computer speakers, although I don't even know what i recorded, it was just a test. When i was using the headphones i was just trying to see if i could hear anything straight from the 410 from the headphone jack of the 410, but i can't, only if i preview a sample from the insert audio. I don't know what the output of my audio is set for, where do i find it? I am brand new to pro tools so i don't know alot.

This is your problem. Pro Tools output goes through the 410, not the computer spaekers. You will need to monitor through the 410, either with headphones or with monitor speakers.
