5.1 surround sound headphones

I do some compositing and 3D in my spare time and lately I have been bagging a comany that sells 5.1 surround sound HEADPHONES for games.., it occured to me that though in essance this is completely werid.., 5.1 to me sugests 6 speakers but I might be wrong??

anyone know about this?? is there such a thing??

The DOLBY box was designed and originally sold by LAKE Technologies. I have the LAKE box and it's pretty interesting. You do get a surround image. Your not of course going to get a true sub. It is much less fatiguing to listen to that normal with headphones. I think the Ranch bought a bunch once. The idea behind the box originally was to allow editors to work in a decent 5.1 environment with out having to construct a lot of mini 5.1 stages. In theory the box will give a more accurate mix stage/ theatre sound than a small room with a 5.1 setup. I originally got it for that reason. The room I was in had no potential for a 5.1 setup that even could come close to accurate (room shape was impossible).

Hey, no I'm just having a giggle...

The software etc. for 5.1 headphones actually looks very interesting - good on the road I guess, but headphones in general are awful for editing and mixing IMO - not to mention insidious tinnitus.

Moomba eh? Isn't there good fishing out there - top of York peninsula? I used to go swimmer crab fishing/netting there as a kid.

actualy i always confuse Mooba and Moonta., i THINK you mean Moonta.., i used to spend a lot of time there too, at a place called Clinton.., and yes, i did a lot of blue swimmmer crab hunting in the shallows too.., but mainly whiting fishing.., ahh, those were the days.., on a boat.., no land in site..,
