Default 002 DAE error messages

Greetings,
I just put together a new computer system and i keep getting the following error messages:

DAE 1115 error when loading protools, this happens quite often but not every time. This is perhaps a firewire issue, I have the approved SIIG firewire card and I have been moving it around to different slots, it has improved but not gone away. It isn't sharing an irq spot with anything. The motherboard has an on board firewire port with the VIA chip and that works about the same as the SIIG card.
DiGI tec support doesn't have a clue.

The other more disturbing error happens when I try to playback a project. I hit play and nothing happens for several seconds and then i get a message that says:

"DAE is having trouble keeping up. Disk may be too slow or fragmented"

It doesn't happen on all projects just some.

Again digi tech support is clueless.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Brian

Are your audio drives on FireWire, or on an internal IDE controller?
If internal, are they all set correctly? Specifically, a Master and Slave on each IDE port, and no cable select jumpers installed?
Do the failures happen if you move the offending project onto the system drive?

On my system, I have two Firewire cards on IRQ11, along with 6 other things. I mention this to point out that IRQ sharing is normal, and not really shouldn't cause any trouble.

Brian, I was having the same DAE error 9 out of 10 times I launched PTLE. I was also using the SIIG card. I switched to the Adaptec FireConnect 4300 and have had a 100% success rate....no more errors. My motherboard has an 845 chipset. Maybe the Adaptec card is more compatible with the Intel chipsets???? I just know the new card solved my problem. Good luck, Jason

Greetings,
Thanks for the posts.
The hard drives are not firewire drives. They are IDE drives connected properly. I tried moving the offending files to the application drive, but the same thing happens, it does nothing for 10 seconds and then it gives the error message " DAE is having trouble keeping up. Disk may be too slow or fragmented...."

Greetings Brian.

I assume your drives are DMA'ed.

OK, next step... try changing the video card.

Sometimes the 450 doesn't like the firewire thing happening.

NIC? Try disabling.

Best regards,

Haigbabe

Did you try that new firewire card yet?

If you did and still errors you could try seperate
ATA cable for each HD, works for some, worked for me too

When you start PTLE does the green IEEE light on the 002 flicker?, if so this bad data transfer going on, hit pause key and look at your bios post screen for IRQ sharing of the Firewire card, try different PCI slot's till it its not sharing with onboard ACPI or Serial BUS controllers or netcard, also look at your motherboard manual for the IRQ sharing table, disable things in bios such as onboard Serial ports, unused USB's, printer port (if not using it), onboard audio devices...etc.

I've tried the SIIG 3 port and it works fine but we have different mobo chipsets.

DAE -1115 errors are ALWAYS Firewire related. Definitely make sure your HDD's have DMA enabled. Beyond that, I'd suspect the firewire interface on your system. I am running a nForce2 chipset with an Athlon CPU, and have not used a Intel CPU / chipset, so I can't give you specifics on that, but with Athlon systems and nForce2 Chipsets, the VIA chipset firewire interfaces work much better. That may not hold true for the Intel side of things though, so trying a different Firewire card (with a different chipset than what you're currently using) may be a good idea.

If that fails, try a different video card. I had problems with my Matrox (G550), but I suspect that was due to incompatabilities with the nForce2 chipset. I certainly had many problems that vanished once I went to a ATI Radeon dual head card (ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128 MB).
