Partitioning a PT project hard drive?

just wondered if it affects the performance of a dedicated PT project drive if u partition it and use one partition for something else. being an amateur it will take me a while to fill up a 1 terabyte hard disk so is it ok to use one half just for storage eg photos etc assuming ofcourse that i'm not using the HD for anything else while PT is running.
