Artist Mix Vs S1 Display/Workflow Thoughts

While waiting for the S1 to become available, playing around with new Avid App with Dock and Artist Mix. In home small desk situation so wondering if the other tablet screen on the S1 (amongst its other features) has enough value to upgrade from Mix to S1.

Was trying out specifically if I could just use the Meters new function on iPad in dock and keep with Mix.

My thought is that the seemingly innocent slave relationship the S1 Meters tablet display has with the S1 control surface is important. To always monkey around with the dock to get to the right meter display as you mix with faders on Mix is clunky.

And the situation gets worse with Mix when you use Layouts because you cannot get the Dock tablet display to reflect the custom layout. And of course with S1 - the control surface reflects layout selection and so as slaves, does the S1 tablet display. Very slick.

Now reading the S1 manual - I see Avid of course was purposeful to do this and they defaulted with shift + colored chicklets at bottom of surface selects those layouts like the S3. Again very slick.

And finally I thought maybe a clunky negative is that because the S1 display is forced to Meters display only that I would like to also see the Mix screen on the S1 display but then realize that the control surface itself is the "mix screen" as the motorized faders indicate faders position and OLED's show you pan etc.

So I think its worth the upgrade for this workflow improvement(s) alone.

All thoughts without having an S1 of course.
