Default iMac wont shut down

Hi

Since uploading Pro Tools 12.5 on my iMac, my iMac works fine until the shutdown procedure, to which it remains the background screen with no doc. I have to switch it of via the button on the back and I don't want to keep doing this.
Ive searched the internet and I can see that theres something with my El capitan and the Avid Audiocore plugin file.

http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ling-HD-Driver

I can't find this file on my iMac, I'm new to mac as well which doesn't help.
Any advice?
thanks

IF you installed it, it's here:

You may also manually delete the Avid CoreAudio.plugin file, located here: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/

If you didn't, the problem must be something else.

First, unplug the machine for 30 seconds to clear the SMC.

Then clear PRAM: Shut down your machine. Yes, all the way down, not sleep or logging out. Press the power button and then press command-option-p-r. Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you here the startup chime. Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally.

Hope this helps.

I have this problem when the Avid Manager is running.
I disabled it on logon so it's no longer an issue.
When I need it I run it and then at that time I would have to do the shutdown button thingie

Hi

thanks for both replies, sorry for the delayed response
I cant find the file /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/
So clearly this ain't the issue
just wondering ronwasserman on your method

"First, unplug the machine for 30 seconds to clear the SMC.

is that likely to impact on my files, best backing up?

Sorry really new to macs, I'm far comfortable with PC's

Thanks again
Cal

Sometimes all you need is to install WavesHell and restart is a no-go

ok let's kick blame around a bit. in my case, computer would start again after switching off, and sometimes keeps doing it, unless i unplug the iLok2 from the USB port it's in.

Whenever I'm having Mac issues, I do exactly as you stated above regarding SMC and PRAM. This will not have any impact on your files. As for backing up. I use time machine and then manually copy any new pro tools project files to additional external drives daily.

But if the problem(s) still persists, download whatever operating system you're using with the mac app - application and just reinstall the system again. DO NOT DO A CLEAN INSTALL AT THIS POINT. You'd just be installing the system software over the same system software and would not lose any of your apps (like pro tools) or settings. I've done this a few times and and Mac issues I was having magically disappeared.

Hope this helps.

I had this same problem and removing the Avid Core Audio plug in solved it for me.
