(YMMV)
There still aren't any DSP harmonic distortion plugins that rival the Soundtoys plugins. There is nothing close to Decapitator. Even the graininess of EchoBoy is unrivaled. Great harmonic distortion is a huge area to be lacking in.

I think the softube saturation knob sounds really really nice for what it does.
Maybe even better than decapitator and massey THC.
Will not buy more of soundtoys and massey if they dont release dsp versions.

The other reason for no more Soundtoys... I already have 'em all.

The Saturation Knob is totally different than DeCap. It is way more extreme and brittle sounding. It also, obviously, does nothing that EchoBoy does. I stand by the original statement that there are still no Harmonic Distortion plugins that rival, unfortunately, the Sound Toys stuff. I'm not happy with the company either. Unfortunately, they are one of the reasons that my HDX system stays in the closet and the TDM system still does the work that is required for making records, start to finish.

Accurate analog modeling is by definition a high CPU/high latency process. The more accurate it is, the greater the computational overhead. HDX by definition is an ultra low latency process. For that reason I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for ultra high quality analog models on HDX. What you can do is check out DSP plugs like reeltape saturation that quite possibly could do something that is musically comparable.

We're in a time of transition where native is close to catching up to the power of dedicated DSP. This puts developers at a major financial risk in developing for any kind of non-native DSP. TDM will be a better choice for some applications today but only probably for a couple more years.
