Default TR8S using USB in Pro Tools

Hello Folks,

I just recently bought a Roland Tr8s, which is supposed to be able to record 16 multi track separately in Pro Tools using the sound from the TR8S using only a USB(directly in to the computer). Do as any body know if I need to use Midi or Audio tracks. When using Midi I can hear sounds but there not from the tr8s. Audio doesnt work at all. When using midi its also not separating into multi channel. Does anybody know how to get this to work, I've tried everything.

Did you install the driver that the manual says is required in order to use it as a USB interface?

https://www.roland.com/global/products/tr-8s/downloads/

Does the TR8S appear as an audio interface in Pro Tools?

and yes it does recognize it. I just don't know which I should select, Audio or Midi. Audio is not workg at all, Midi makes these weird sounds not from the tr8s.

OK, if the TR8S is listed as an audio interface in Pro Tools, then create a new audio track and select an audio channel of the TR8S as the input to the audio track. When you play the TR8S, it should feed the audio track in that Pro Tools track. If there are several channels listed from the TR8S, you might need to assign which channels the sound goes to, or flip through them one by one on the PT input until you get the signal.

Midi out of the TR8S will only trigger sounds from another virtual instrument plug-in in Pro Tools. You will not hear sounds from the TR8S by using its MIDI out alone.

ITS WORKING. Heres what people should know. You have to change your playback device to the TR8S and then connect the speaker aux to the tr8s itself. I usually use a M-audio Pre amp so i was getting any sound. If you run everything through the trx and use that as your pre amp, it works like a charm. CNOTE, cant thank you enough.

Glad you got it working. You could probably set up both devices at the same time so you can use it the way you want (M-Audio as your main input and output) by setting them up as Aggregate devices in Mac OS Audio Midi setup so that both units appear in Pro Tools.
