Default Crossgrade to PT 9.x from PT8 LE

I currently have the latest release of PT8 LE and it is on Windows XP. So in order to get Windows 7 installed and go to PT9 I have to re-install the OS, which is not a bad thing.

Mbox2 Pro (blue box) and Eleven, with all the latest drivers per the PT9 docs.

Questions:
1) If I crossgrade do I need to have PT8 installed on Windows 7 before going to PT9, or is the crossgrade a full product so I can go from scratch.

2) Does the crossgrade come with a license code or do I have to enter something online to get a new code.

3) Having read all the docs is there something I might be missing. It seems like having the latest drivers for the hardware and Windows 7 running is all that is needed for PT9. I do have an Ilok also.

Thanks
Drew

You do not need to have any previous version installed of Protools. In fact it's recommended that you don't. PT9 is a full install.

When you purchase the crossgrade, you have the option to download either the updater (for those that have a previous version installed) or the full installer (for those that don't hae a previous version istalled or choose to reformat their drive and reload the OS). Both are available. If you get the boxed version, I believe it is the full installer on the DVD only.

I believe PT9 requires an iLok and an iLok.com account, and when you purchase the software the license gets transferred to your iLok account.

You will also need an ILok, no if's, and's or but's, won't work without it. You can go ahead and setup an ILok account to deposit your asset until you get the physical ILok if you wish.

One other thing Drew. You'll need the most updated drivers for your MBox2Pro. I found out the hard way that the Updater PT 9 downloader dies NOT do this automatically. Very frustrating. Maybe the full install does.

Thanks everyone for the posts. I do have the latest drivers and an ILok so I seem to be good to go.

Actually the full installer does not have the interface drivers. Since PT9 is no longer tied to the interface, the drivers for Avid drivers is a separate download and installed separately. In a way, it is good in that you don't need to load drivers that you do not necessarily use.

Yes, I do see that logic on Avid's part. It just isn't in any documentation I read from the downloads page. Remember many of us crossgraded and had every intention of continuing to use our Avid hardware. We needed some 'hint' from the downloads page and there was none - at least not when I downloaded. I'll bet there is now - but I assure you there wasn't when I crossgraded.
