Default has anyone seen this error?

when trying to save:

could not save "sessionname" because assertion in "CNeolBlock.cpp", line 164.

or when trying to record, it records, but when done recorded audio disappears and says:

could not complete your request because assertion in "CNeolBlock.cpp", line 164.

I think I've seen that before... Try this:

1. Quit Pro Tools
2. In the finder open up which ever hard disk you are recording to
3. There should be a folder called Digidesign Databases
4. Inside that folder there should be a file called volume.ddb - rename this file to old_volume.ddb
5. Relaunch Pro Tools (Pro Tools will automatically create a new volume.ddb file)
6. If this solves the problem, you can delete the old_volume.ddb file

If I'm thinking of the same error, this occurs when there's a major system crash and you get that grayed out screen with all the different languages on it telling you to hold down the power button to shut off the computer.

Good Luck!

That's called a kernel panic.

Anytime your system has one or after any hard restart you should immediately repair your disks before continuing to work. If not you'll have disk corruption that will eventually manifest itself in problems like these if you're lucky, and a hosed hard drive if you're not.

If your system has recurring kernel panics you should investigate the cause. It's telling you that it's very unhappy about something, and that something is a serious problem.
