Windows 7 better stability with HD than XP?
Just curious to know if anyone has seen increased stability with HD on Win7 with PT9 as opposed to 8.1 on XP? Pretty much the only reason we would consider upgrading since increased functionality between the versions is minimal. You know, less Access Violations and RTAS/VI memory related issues. Our HD6 XP system with Magma Chassis is quite usable and pretty stable but, there are annoying issues that we've always had to workaround with various Digi approved computers on XP. Thanks...

Re: Windows 7 better stability with HD than XP?
I have found win7x64 alot more stable than XP.
Go out, buy a new HD and install win7x64 and Protoools 9 on it. Keep the XP hard drive in your drawer. You will always have a backup in that case. cya Ghengis

Re: Windows 7 better stability with HD than XP?
Thanks for the reply.. Yeah, we would have to get a new computer to run Win7 - especially if we go 64 bit (diff processor/motherboard would be needed). If stability is better, it'd be well worth the investment and the time in doing the fresh install.
Thanks again. Anyone else feel free to chime in. Much appreciated. |

Wow! Only 1 reply? haha.. Nobody has experience with HD on XP and then went to Win7? I guess we'll sit tight for a bit!

You dont want to wait, go ahead and upgrade, W7 64-bit is awesome, after trying it a while ago there's no going back for me.

Re: Windows 7 better stability with HD than XP?
Put it this way, if you want to go to 9, you have to go to Windows 7. No other supported option.

Windows 7 64 bit is a huge step up from XP in my opinion. For the memory alone!! Also, Pro Tools has never run better!!

Re: Windows 7 better stability with HD than XP?
Thanks guys. The only reason we are considering the upgrade to PT9, Genghis, is to take advantage of the potential extra stability of Win7 (not the other way around) since they are now officially approving Win7 for HD (we like to wait for 'official' approval!! - even though we know many guys have been using Win7 with PT8 and having positive results). So, again, thanks for all of the input. It looks like a go from here!!
