Looks like an awesome system.

Latency through standard network card was about the same as Firewire, they said in a video.

The PCI card is optional. It's for getting the max inputs and the lowest latency. The system appears to work without it, just using ethernet.

I'm going to go out on a limb but I suspect with a name like RedNet that they would be modeling the Red range.

Isn´t that what people want when they buy such a system?

I am hoping the 004 looks more like this (except a singe-rack space). :)

@Frank Kruse,

It depends on how much the PCI card costs. If I don't need a lot of i/o at once, and if just going through ethernet gives me the same latency as firewire (which is fine for me), it still may be a nice solution because of (assuming) good quality ad/da conversion and the modular configuration benefits.

As others said, this is optional. In my main machine sure, depending on price their dedicated card that gives you the lowest latency is going to be ideal.

But what's cool is that it's not required, so if you have a remote gig you can take the interface and your laptop and not need to bring some clumsy cardbus to PCIe to digilink contraption. This also means you can use any model of mac with this, not just macbook pros that have the expresscard slot.

It will be interesting to see price, and what the latency difference is between built in ethernet and their dedicated card. I know with audio over ethernet software like audioport universal or VE pro the latency is not an issue for most people.

I am confused a bit on these. I don't see any wordclock. Is there no clocking issue when using multiple units?
