There's a plethora of choices for saturation and tape type plugins. Heat looks and sounds nice but personally I'm non HD. Also Avid plugins can be expensive, even second hand eBay bargains considered. With the way that Waves is leading he market with $29 deals for full on plugins it is hard to consider expensive alternatives, especially those for DSP solutions.

I got the VSM-3 during the sale the other day and found that adding it as a last plugin on the master aux before the Weiss DS-1 allowed me to get everything I liked about Heat and more without any of the slow, sludginess that I don't like about Heat.
