Avid uses the loops. To make us wait!

I played around with them many years ago. For about a minute.

Digidesign did the same thing with Big Fish, Cycling, and a few other loop making companies - before Avid took over. It was like 4GB of loops in a package that came with Pro Tools.

I still have those loops somewhere. Never have I once touched them in the 10 years I've had them.

It's not common, but I do once in a while. Honestly, the loops were every bit as useful to me as anything else that has been included in the last few years.

It's a Logic thing

Default Where is 12.8?

I actually used quite a few of the loops and the one shots that came with 12.7. They are decent. I just still move between PT 12.7.1 and PT 10 a lot and if you don't consolidate the new loops in 12.7.1 before going back to 10, they will show up as missing audio files. I'll probably use them more when I finally drop 10 permanently, but that will be awhile. I currently use Stylus RMX for most of my loops when I use loops.

I think most Pro Tools Users probably don't use loops as much since the previous loop browser wasn't as robust in Pro Tools (hence the update with the new browser).

I see a lot of projects from Logic that use a lot of loops. They probably use loops more often because Logic has such a massive loop library with a great Loop Browser that makes them more useful.

The new Browser in Pro Tools is Avid's attempt to help make loops more useful in Pro Tools like it is in Logic. It is actually a decent step in the right direction, but could still be better.

I dont know of anyone who does electronic composition (Anything with a Computer that involves using Sample / VI Based Composition) that doesn't at one point use a loop. Either to sample a sound from or use as an entity.

Stylus RMX - if you will is nothing but a loop player. It is just highly limited but if you want TwentyFour-Style car-chase 16th - it is great.

Logic deals with loops fantastically - very easy to make them blend in. NI Maschine deals with them - AKAI MPC Deals with them.

Most folks I know using Protools are straight Recording Engineers - They Record bands and what not. Never do any composition. Which probably explains why Protools can still get away with being the most unfriendly composition-tool on the planet.

If you wanna mess with loops there are fantastic plugs and other DAWs like Ableton (Never used it but people swear on it) to achieve the shortcomings of PT. Transfuser being other one which can do some amazing things....

100% agree. Loops, drum machines, etc., can be fun, but are just facsimiles of the real thing. It's the interaction, unpredictable variables, expanding and contracting tempi, dynamics, rapport between musicians... that's where the gold is...
