MBox2 is a second generation device, right? So that means that the S/PDIF output on MBox2 is just a mirror of the analog output, right?

Yes, I was referring to the Mbox 3 not having that limitation.

But we still don't know exactly what you're trying to do. If you are indeed hoping to get multichannel surround out of the Spidf output, there is no interface in existence that will do that.
