that company propellor head has been doing that type of authentication with its software for years the concept being that if you don't have the authenticator with you at present, you can just log-in to your internet account and access the software. Very handy concept. If the cloud is down, you still have the old dongle with you.

Like machine authorisation I don't believe there will be a 100% uptake.

IMHO unless they pretty much all do then it will be a non-starter.
I imagine synching most of your licenses on the cloud and then still requiring a physical iLok for some of it will be a royal PITA.

They may not have a choice. In the sense that it's simply an option that Pace could/might bake into the SDK. In other words, it might all be automatic. BTW, users can simply ignore all of this and keep working as they have with their physical iLok.

Considering they were polling users and asking if/how much they would pay to use iLok cloud, I see this failing at launch.

No one is going to want to pay a monthly fee for copy protection.

It’s a shame as this would be a good solution for mobile users that don’t want to run the risk of breaking/losing their dongle.

Yeah probably not going to fly...minimal usage and revenue

Remember every time Ilok does a major update?

I remember it being a pain, lost licenses ect

I missed the polling. I agree that if they think people will pay extra for this, they'll be disappointed in that revenue stream.

Don't recall getting anything from iLok about a poll for this. And even if I had I would have said no way. Yearly ZDT is one thing (and worth it) but a monthly fee on top of that?

That brings up a thought I'll toss out: I wonder if this monthly fee would do away with ZDT as a separate charge and roll that into the fee? Now I'm not saying they're going to do away with yearly ZDT but have this monthly as a different way of working with the iLok licensing scheme?

The poll has now ended.

I can’t remember the specifics, but I had a good chuckle. I mean, how much can the server costs be? They’re software authorisations not 4K films.
