Pro tools 8 LE unable to receive midi

Ok, since we know that you're using Kontakt, can I ask which version of Kontakt you have installed? Also do you possibly have any incompatible plug-ins installed - you can compare your installed versions to the compatibility grid (more info in the General Troubleshooting thread).

My guess is that an incompatible plug-in is causing this - older versions of Kontakt have been known to create strange MIDI problems like you're describing.

My issue is similar, when trying to playback with midi enabled PT 8.0.1 loops first note and freezez whole system. This started with the upgrade. Never had this issue before....

It would help immensely if you can post more details about what you've tried, your system specs, etc.

Especially important are all the settings/possible fixes given in this thread. Which ones have you done?

And can you use the Tech Support Utility from the General Troubleshooting thread to generate and post an installed plug-in list?

i am having the same problems all day long. i have been doing all of the trouble shooting issues. trashing preferences. trashing databases. emptying trash. restarting the computer. all sorts of things. yet, still i cannot get any MIDI signal, and i am just using Xpand. funny, when i use reason in PT 8.0.1, it works in the reason plugin, but, when i just wanna use Xpand, and save on my CPUs, i get nothing. i open previous sessions that read the MIDI files and play it back fine, but when i actually try to play something in, it does not work. it's very aggravating. i am sure most of us have deadlines. so....wtf?

my setup is :

Mac Pro 2.8 GHz

Memory: 4 GB

PT 8.0.1 Digi 003 Rack

M-Audio keystation 88

ur midi channel is more than likely NOT on channel 1 in Xpand.. chk that & put it on channel 1...

i have been working with this stuff hours on end daily for the last 5 years or so. i (hopefully) know most ways around trouble shooting and getting this to work one way or another. all i usually have to do is go into the audio/midi setup and create a new configuration. or trash my databases and preferences and restart. out of the 5 or 6 times i did this yesterday, it did work once for about 5 minutes, but then, i figured problem was solved so, shut down and took a break, then when i restarted, same problem, all night long, until i surrendered and ended up using reason

Hi all - I'm the creator of this thread if you're new to the thread.

1st of all, to answer the kind digi tech support people. I'm using the new (well I guess not quite so new) kontakt 3.0 that ships with komplete 5.

Again, everyone should note that the issue is not whether pro tools is recieving midi or not. It is when a previous temp is used where midi and instruments (any instrument i.e kontakt, reason, expand you name it) were working. However, MIDI is NOT being received when attempting to create a session from scratch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but each newly created session is a "blank slate" midi wise and should therefore receive midi no matter what UNLESS something is "fuxored".
I've always been able to create a new session, create one midi track, set the input of the midi track to whatever AMS is seeing (i.e your midi device) hit the keyboard and bingo - the track meter starts jumping.


The fact that I'm following these very same steps and the digi 002 is getting midi but the midi track in the session is not is a real head scratcher.

The most annoying part of this is that it appears random. The other day I was able to create a new session with one midi strip with no problems receiving midi. That same day I tried again and it failed.

My apologies to keeeeybeeets as I've been away from pro tools for the last 5 days (and in an imposed nuendo session...yes...feel my pain) so I've been unable to send him a "funky" session in which to try on his rig to see if results vary.

Again, everyone should note that the issue is not whether pro tools is recieving midi or not. It is when a previous temp is used where midi and instruments (any instrument i.e kontakt, reason, expand you name it) were working. However, MIDI is NOT being received when attempting to create a session from scratch.

You need to remove those incompatible plug-ins, or update them.

The are almost certainly a contributor to the problem - long story short, they can corrupt sessions or cause very intermittent and bizarre behavior, exactly like you're seeing.

If you can use the tech support utility to generate and post a plug-in version list I can help with identifying the problematic ones. You can always refer to our compatibility grid here as well.
