Default Locking tempo change events?

Hello,

My problem is this:

I am doing a film score with my PT6.2.2 using an imported QuickTime movie with timecode as picture. The score involves tempo changes in important points. I am able to insert a tempo change event and everything works fine IF I do them from the beginning till the end - in chronological order. However if I decide to alter a certain tempo event, all the events after it change places, since the number of bars is kept constant. Is there any way to change the tempo so, that all the events that follow would be kept in their absolute positions. That way PT would create more (or less) beats in the changed tempo instead of using the same amount of beats and moving all the following tempo events.
Can you follow what I´m trying to ask?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Hi-

Tempo manipulation in ProTools such as you are describing is probably not possible. It's something we've been asking about for years. In Digital Performer, it's a breeze. You're better off working out your tempo map in a real sequencer and importing that map into ProTools.

I face the same issue every day. Guess we'll have to conform to the programmer's concept and only work in a linear fashion!

Thanks for your reply.

I´ve been suspecting this. ProTools is a great piece of software for recording purposes but now I have a strong feeling that for these kind of projects I should switch to Logic or Cubase.
What a shame.

The only workaround I´ve found out for this problem so far is just to calculate the new tempi manually and accept the fact that following events will shift. Then I have to either "Add Silence" (if the tempo is made faster) or cut out material using shuffle mode (if the tempo is made slower).

How have you guys been able to deal with these issues?

Thanks,
