I assume in different systems as a total (otherwise there's some lack of truth going on.)

And HDX cards have no influence on VIs. The last VI I heard that could use ProTools DSP was back on TDM with Virus. Maybe a synth from Plugin Alliance today -- haven't checked. But no samplers, etc.

This article is very well written and clear, it also hints cleverly whose fault it is. Should have solved OP problems

I dream to be able to throw in UAD plugins on Instrument Tracks in Pro Tools without any need to adjust any delay compensation with Audio Tracks in sync #Justsayin

To the O/P

The virtual instrument you're running - is it being played by MIDI on the same instrument track that the VI is inserted on? Or is it somehow being played/sequenced within the plug in itself? Or from a separate MIDI track?

I have found (with a certain percussion NI VI) that when the pattern is being triggered by a sequencer within the plug in itself, it played out of time on an instrument track. I believe this is because delay compensation on Instrument tracks is dealt with in the MIDI domain (ie before the VI), not the audio domain (after the VI). The fix was simply to move the VI to an Aux track, where delay compensation was dealt with in the audio domain/post the plug in. All back in time.

I have also had issues with delay compensation where I had MIDI on a separate MIDI track playing a VI on an Instrument track. playback was again out of time - In that instance I think I solved it by simply copying the MIDI to the instrument track instead.
