Default Re: protools le and control 24

Whoever buys a control 24 to run PTLE has really got a lotta money to BURN!

I can think of better things to invest $7,000.00 on. Mainly gear which will help my sound (a/d converter, pre's, mics, fx units, outboard dynamics, etc).

Control 24 wouldn't be a justified purchase/upgrade in my opinion.

If you must have a controller try Motor Mix or something of the like.

Default protools le and control 24

Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone is using the C24 with the mac 001 protools yet. If so how is it and Is it worth the money without a mix system. I would really like to buy one but it is a big chunk of cash to spend and be disapointed. thanks all

Well, the naysayers may be right. But...the C24 would add a dimension of class and style to your studio. Also, I use Motormix and it ain't no Control 24! If I had the $$ I would probably get one.

yeah, if you had outside clients coming in it would definitley make a difference and add to the "wow" factor of your studio.

Well, don't forget, the vibe of the studio is very important. Your clients may THINK it sounds better coming out of the C24! And, yes, you could probably charge more with your slick new ultra-modern nuclear-powered stealthy mixing console. And don't forget to wear a tuxedo while mixing...

Actually I think you can get used C24s closer to 5K, and at that price, you get your Focusrite mic pres at about $315 per channel, plus a free control surface and monitor section to boot! If you're already running good AD/DA and Pres, the choice is really between moving up to C24 or moving up to TDM/HD. So its a matter of wheter or not you're happy with LE limitations. If the limitations don't effect you, C24 might be your next step. If you need SMPTE, more tracks, more DSP, beat detective, etc., then C24+LE is probably not as wise a choice.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I dont agree. There´s a lot of 001 owners who got outboard equipment that rivals pro studios, but refuses to pay the price for a TDM-system. With new PowerMacs, OS-X and multi-processor support on the way, a C24 could be just the right thing to beef up the workflow in your studio. Most people find it easier mixing using faders rather than a mouse. Setting cue or effect sends in a 24 - channel mix with a mouse - forget it.

I agree that a C24 purchase is not the first on the list for a bedroom-sized home studio, but for semi-pro studios with host-based ProTools systems, it rocks! It´s also a natural upgrade path for a studio wanting to expand its business.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I completely agree. The HUI is much more integrated to ProTools and much more responsive than the MotorMix but costs a couple grand less the the C24. Get one used on Ebay and save the 2 grand or so for something more important.
