Default What is a voice/drive mismatch?

When I some sessions that I haven't worked with for some months I get the following message:

This session contains a voice/drive mismatch!

A track can not playback an audio file if the track's voice uses a different Disk I/O than the audio file. (For example, a track with an "A" voice can not play back audio from a "B" drive.)

How should Pro Tools try to resolve this problem?

_Look for duplicated drives
_Look for compativele voices.
_Copy files to new drives.

What is the meaning of this message, and why is there any sort of problem? The session and all of the audio files are on an external drive. It might be that I originally had the session and all of the audio files on my internal drive and then copied them to the external drive. When I copy the session and all of the audio files to the internal drive I get the same message.

All of this is happening with Pro Tools FREE, but I'm posting here because I would guess that the issue is not specifically about PTF.

Thank you,
John Link

That's an old message.. or at least based on how the older versions of Pro Tools used to allocate voices. Just elect to look for compatible voices, and you should be okay.

Thank you for the suggestion, Rail, but it didn't work. After restarting my computer one of the problem sessions worked but the other didn't, and then after restarting again the other worked as well. I'm curious to know whether either of them will work today.
