Pro Tools is a Step Sequencer.

of course you can program beats right into the piano roll, but remembering which key corresponds to which sound slows me down.. if i just want to lay out a simple programmed beat, a step sequencer is very useful :)

Yes I have a Korg Electribe S MKII on it's way.

Set a Template using multiple MIDI tracks in the MEW colour coded MIDI Notes by Track.

Reason, Fruity Loops, Digital Performer and even Logic can do it.
Only Protools can't. - See where I am going with this.?
Try iDrum.

Yep.

and if they did, they just bought something else that could do the job

of course, TR-808 didn't even sample right? it's a synth. so sampling would be much more difficult. i think boom is sample based, so it wouldn't be nearly as difficult to replace the samples

regardless, the included boom sounds are great and you can make tons of different variations with the different kit sounds and tweaking the knobs. limitations leading to new forms of creativity and all that

I believe so however Boom is a type of emulator not a clone.
