Hi again Nick:

I'm finally doing the Core 2 build tonight. Will you be around Saturday if I need a bit of help with the BIOS settings? I can call you or Skype whichever is most convenient for you...

OK, new Core Two is built. XP Pro is installed. I haven't downloaded any of the Asus drivers yet (will do so when done here). Am getting a boot error:

CPU uLoad Error press F1 to continue

I press F1 and it works but I'm sure something is not right. Need to do BIOS stuff no doubt. Will contact NickH Saturday when I get up (4 hours earlier than you are currently)

You might want to google that but it probably means the BIOS needs to be updated to a newer version.

If you have a newer G0 stepping processor you need the latest BIOS which is 805

CPU Support Page

Reseting the CMOS may help- pull the battery or move the CMOS Reset jumper It may be labeled CLRTC

Is there any way I can update the BIOS without a floppy drive? I didn't install a floppy in the new system. BTW, I have 8.03 BIOS on the mobo now.

I hate this part of the build process! I'm fine with the assembly but the software config and BIOS stuff leaves me feeling a bit stupid.

Nick, will you be around at about 5pm UK time for a chat? I think by telephone is easiest since I won't be able to skype where the Quad PC is located. Let me know via email please and leave your contact tel number ([email protected])...thanks

Big thanks to my m8 over the pond NickH, who successfully guided me through the tedious BIOS edits for my new Core 2 Quad. PT 7.4cs3 installed, Acronis back-up saved. First cut at DVERB2 test is 229 @ 24 48 1024 Thats HD tracks not aux tracks...should the HD test be just 32 tracks and then add AUX tracks? Not sure

off to a gig tonight, will test the PT rig tomorrow morning. So far so good! Got a ton of plugins to install...what a pain that is.

Once I get the results, I will post the exact edits in the BIOS for others to share.
