Default Remove OMNI "Stereo Monitor"

I've removed an OMNI (now using 192 for main outputs) from my rig but the "Stereo Monitor" physical output is still hanging around in my I/O Outputs and is forcing all my sessions to open with inactive outputs as the Stereo Monitor isn't assigned. I can't delete it from the I/O, as it says to open the Monitor section in Hardware to do that but that tab in Hardware doesn't exist now that the OMNI is no longer attached.

I've trashed all the prefs too. Any suggestions?

If you give the current output path(thru the 192) the same name as the OMNI output path, then it should come up correctly

Thanks for chiming in. Can you explain further?

The "Stereo Monitor" path is its own special physical output used only by the OMNI hardware, which appears to have stuck around even though its not connected. There is a stereo column next to my 192 & HDI/O, like where the hardware name would appear but it's blank.

Currently, my 192 outputs are labelled 1-2, 3-4 etc in the Output tab. There is also a "Stereo Monitor" Output row that is locked. The outputs can't be moved from the blank column described above, where the OMNI used to exist. If I try to delete this row, its says "The Monitor path cannot be deleted from the I/O Setup Dialog. Please open the Hardware Setup Monitor tab to modify the Path". This Monitor tab doesn't exist in the Hardware Setup.

The problem is when I'm sent sessions from other studios, the "Monitor Path" default selection in the bottom right of the Output tab changes. So even if I have it selected to my 192 physical outputs, if a I load an outside session, it changes back to this non-existant Stereo Monitor.

Actually I solved it. I was relying on PT Pref helper to delete prefs, but I found a hardware pref that once deleted, reset the I/O setup.

Cheers

You might want to PM Pete Gates here and let him know which one so he can add it in future.

The IO can be reset to default any time by using the default button. As for naming, That allowed my ex-partner and I to swap sessions without the usual routing hassle. His rig(midi suite) was an Mbox 2 Pro, while mine in the main room was HD/Native with pairs of HD IO and 192 IO's. By naming both systems main stereo outs the same(Main Out L/R was our choice) and naming his 2 inputs to match 2 of my inputs allowed sessions to move between rooms with less fussing.

Any time you open a session that has mis-matched IO, go directly to the IO setup and rename and/or delete bogus paths, then save the session. That way, it will open correctly the next time. As great as it is that Avid opened up 3rd party hardware, it brought some issues with it

Some years after the post, I have the same issue. I would love to know the precise "hardware pref" that solved it!

Cheers

Sorry it's been a while, but I believe it was anything with the I/O settings 'Kind' in the Avid Preference folder (/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Avid/Pro Tools)
