Default Re: The Allenstein Quadzilla Machine

Hi,
thanks, I'll try that out again.

I downloaded that (I think) from Tyan, it contained to setups, one for TMS ans one for TMC, but in all readme's it didn't list the S2927 and, when I tried it briefly it said, cannot read data ...

I'll give it another more thorough try.

Cheers,
- J

* Update *

you can download TSM 2.24 from

http://www.tyan.de/archive/support/h...utilities.html

and after this you can install patch 2.24 from same website.

This should work with S2927.

CPU temperature should be OK, if it will not be higher then 70°C. If you have more then 70°C, then you should think about how to improve the cooling. Above 90°C you should switch off quickly.

Hi Guys:

ALright, so Im trying to get together all of the components to build me a quadzilla. I just cant seem to get my hand on the power supply (OCZ PowerStream OCZ520ADJSLI ATX, BTX, EPS12V 520W Power Supply)

Also guys, can I fit 4 Western Digital Raptor 10,000RPM drives on the Asus K8N DL?

I am totally new to computer assembly so could anyone suggest any alternatives to the power supply that are easy to get?

really appreciate your help

Hi,

I'm a newbie here considering building a "Quadzilla" myself or going with a professional solution such as pcAudio's custom DAWs. Just for grins, I put together a pcAudio rack mounted 8 core system (see below).

Can someone in the DUC give me an estimate as to the PTLE performance benchmarks one might expect with such a system.

Thanks....

Dual Processor Rackmount
Dual Intel Xeon E5310 quad core 1.6GHz
Tyan Dual Xeon Motherboard $2,870.00

Memory 4GB DDR2-667 ECC (4 x 1GB) $660.00

VGA Card NVIDIA Geforce 7600GS 512MB DVI/DVI $80.00

Optical Drive 1 NEC 18x Dual Layer DVD Burner $0.00
Optical Drive 2 NEC 18x Dual Layer DVD Burner $50.00

Primary Hard Drive 80GB SATA II (7200rpm : 8MB cache) $5.00
Audio Hard Drive 150GB SATA (10k RPM: 16MB cache) (Audio) $330.00
Extra Hard Drive 1 250GB SATA II (7200rpm : 8MB cache) (Data) $105.00

Floppy Floppy Drive $10.00
Modem 56K DataFax Modem $25.00
Operating System Windows XP Professional $0.00

Total $4,135.00

Hi rockinrude,

Looks like you're running both PT and audio from your system drive. You really need a dedicated hard drive for your audio.

If you can get your hands on any of these, they will work as well.

Hi all, just built a quad and wanted to post some interesting results from initial dverb tests. My quad is as follows:

Tyan S2927 dual socket F
2x Opteron 2212 2.0 GHz w/ Zalman AM2 coolers, Arctic Silver 5
4x Kingston 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM ECC Registered 667
XFX 7600GS 256MB dual DVI
Seagate Barracuda ES 320 SATA
Samsung DVD-RW SATA
NEC black floppy
Antec Titan 550 case w/ 550w TruePower PSU

So here's the interesting part. I did the first dverb test with an Mbox 2 Pro, and was able to get 155 dverbs (31 tracks w/ 5 dverbs each), recorded 5+ min. I wanted to compare with an old Mbox1, thinking I would get a similar discrepancy as what Phobia saw above, like 6 or 7 dverbs less. But instead I was only able to get 137 dverbs (27 tracks w/ 5 dverbs each, 2 dverbs on track 28). Then I realized that Phobia's results were with Opteron 2214's at 2.2 GHz !! I was almost able to match his 002 on dual 2214 results with Mbox 2 Pro on dual 2212!

So, my theory is that maybe the driver for the Mbox 2 Pro (and possibly the 003) results in more dverb capability than the 002. Not sure. I need to borrow a 002 to compare with the Mbox 2 Pro on the same system. Suffice it to say, I'm quite pleased with the performance on dual 2212's.

EDIT: got 2 more dverbs on the Mbox1 by using a different USB port.

first, the drivers for the motherboard (nforce4_amd_6.70_winxp2k..) and the video card (84.21_forceware_winxp2k_en). were they installed from the included cd's or from the website of nvidia??? should get them from the website only.

what bios version for the k8n-dl are you using?? should be 1008.

have you checked that the ram is in the right slots i think i have it posted on the first page of this thread??

i would start here, this is the area where most people have had there problems.

Hi guitardom

at the moment i use BIOS Version 1009, could tht be problem, should i downgrade it to 1008?(theres also Version 1010 available...). I used the Driver from the CD since i read that there where problems with the Tyanboard and the drivers, didn't read that about the Asusboard...

on the net i found the following drivers:

ForceWare_8421_WHQL_Certified
nForce4_AMD_Edition_WHQL_Certified
K8NDL1008
are these the right ones? should i install XP new and format the HD new?
