Default I feel so dirty now

Fear got the better of me, and forced me to buy the annual upgrade plan before it expires after today.

At least now I'll have VCAs and gain reduction meters.

my first problem was i went annual when i couldve got it perpetual for 370 at audio deluxe. Wouldve been cheaper with the 1 year free sub, and 99 after with a permanent license. Now im stuck on the last months of annual, spending more for a temp license than if i went permanent.

You'll probably end up with a lot more than that because Avid still needs to convince people to pay for another upgrade 12 months from now! They've laid out one heck of a challenge for their developers.

Vanilla is a "no brainer" upgrade.

Very true.

Yeah. It's all very strange now. I'm eligible for the Teacher license. I just got the $99/year sub thing, not a permanent license. Not sure if I did the smartest thing, but even at a recurring $99 a year to always stay updated it seems like a good price. Still of course unsure of whether I should have get myself on a perpetual license instead.

The perpetual license is only good for updates for the first year anyway. After that you would still have to subscribe to an update plan to stay current. I had a perpetual license for PT 11, and Avid capped it off at 11.3 anyway (note that they spcifcally excluded those of us who already had a license for PT 11 from downloading 11.3.2. In order to move forward I had to get on a plan of some sort.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I understood it correctly then. I didn't want to get stuck at a buggy 12.4.1 for example and get cut off from getting the bug fixes in 12.4.2. I'm the type that likes to stay updated anyway, so the straight up yearly subscription made sense.

Same here. Can't say I'm not enjoying the new features, but the whole upgrade plan/licensing fiasco has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm seriously considering transitioning to Studio One this year.(I'm a Digi fanboy since 1998)

My rear end is still sore from not receiving the 11.3.2 update after upgrading from 10-11($299) based on AVID's assurance that I would be eligible for all dot releases...

But for now, I'll take advantage of 12 and know my costs are capped long enough to get in the new DAW.

Bummer is my buddy missed the $599 HD upgrade at his place, and probably won't go for it at $999, so with him on 10 and me on 12, a lot of the trading back and forth we do will be tricky now.....
