Default G5--How Quiet?

Sooooo..... How quiet is it? (or do I mean how loud?) Seems pretty relevant here in TDM land where everyone was bemoaning the G4 windtunnel effect...

It's so quiet, you won't hear it until August.

That would hardly be described as quiet. Put it in another room if I were you at that level.

35 dba not acceptable ? um, ok.

The latest Macs that everybody here is using is much greater than that figure. I'd say Apple did a pretty good job, considering the G5s are much more powerful.

0 dba = total silence
10 dba = leaves rustling
19 dba = mac cube (fanless)
30 dba = soft whisper at 15 ft
35 dba = mac G5
50 dba = normal conversation indoors
50 + dba = latest mac G4s

Face it, Apple messed up with the last G4s(regarding noise levels), seems like they learned their lesson, and are making good again on the G5s, I don't see how anybody could complain.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Steve Jobs said the new G5s are twice as quiet (or half as loud) as the latest G4s. If the new G5s are 35dba, wouldn't that mean the spec of the previous model must be 38dba. A difference of 3db is twice as loud (or quiet) correct?

Also on the carillonusa.com website they do a comparison of PC and mac noise levels. I think the chart they have relates to the Quicksilver models, or possibly one verison earlier. They list a Dell Tower as 33db, the PowerMac as 30db and their PC as 24db. I would say a 35db computer would still need a closet or iso-rack if you are recording in the same room. But that's just one man's opinion...

If you want to get into what Apple claim.. then it's:

Designed for whisper-quiet operation
The Power Mac G5’s enclosure houses four discrete thermal zones to compartmentalize the primary heat-producing components. Fans in the zones spin at very low speeds resulting in a system three times quieter than the Power Mac G4.
