Default 8.0.3 Last Version Compatible with XP/SP2?

Hello,

After several weeks, I FINALLY have a working system running PT 8.0.

I'm using XP Pro with SP2, and DO NOT want to get into updating to SP3. However, I would like to run the latest version of PT that's compatible with SP2.

I know that 8.0.4 requires SP3, so that's out.

So could someone please confirm that 8.0.3 will work with SP2 before I install it and risk any complications?

Thanks!

Really, honestly, you should be using SP3. I know that 6.9 and higher require SP2, and PT 8.0 and above are officially supported on SP3, but not tested with SP1 or SP2.
I very sincerely thought SP3 was a requirement already at 8.0

You also might want to consider making an upgrade plan: 8.0.4 is the last version of Pro Tools that will support XP in any form.

spkguitar,

Thanks for the input. I'd update to SP3 if I had a factory XP/SP3 installation disk (maybe) - no more online Microsoft updates for me, though!

If you only knew what I've been through the last few weeks...

Just getting to this point has been an absolute nightmare. Now that I've got 8.0 working, I don't want to take any chances. I'm not even putting it online (any PT updates will be transferred from my "Internet" computer to my "PT" computer via thumbdrive).

If I can't get confirmation that 8.0.3 works with SP2, I'll probably just use 8.0 as is - at least until I upgrade machines.

I think I'm what they call "snakebit" :>)

I agree here, SP3 had many improvements for XP.

Get Acronis Home 2010, make a clone of the drive to another hard drive. Then make an image(you can store the image on the cloned drive) then update to SP3. If anything goes wrong either pop in the clone drive and get to work, or restore the image and get to work.

Yikes!

It looks like there's no consensus at all for me staying at SP2!

Assuming then that I do update to SP3,

1) Can I go directly from 8.0 to 8.0.4 with the 8.0.4 update (no intermediate steps)?

2) Would I WANT to go to 8.0.4? From what I've read on the DUC, I sort of get the impression that 8.0.3 is a bit less buggy (and I probably won't be upgrading to Windows 7 until I build a bigger machine).

Thanks.

Running Pro Tools 8.0.x with Win XP SP2 is an unsupported Pro Tools system. Pro Tools 8.0.4 is EOSS for Win XP.

#1: Yes. You need 8.0, 8.0.1 or 8.0.3 installed before you can update to 8.0.4

#2: Thats up to you. As noted, 8.0.4 is the LAST PT to support XP and Vista.
If 8.0.3 works, then stick with it, update to cs2 and stay there until you upgrade to Win 7. I cant speak for the stability of 8.0.4 on XP as I haven't used XP for a few years.

Sounds like a new song with chorus/chant...Acronis...Acronis...Acronis...Acronis...

Another Grammy!
