Re. the dealers responsibilty in all this a local dealer told me last week that they had received 1 (one) update 6.anything disc from Digi. That was for Mac (of course). They had not even been able to fully update their in house systems.

nono, the 6.1 update to 6.0.2 for macs was about 100 MB.

the 6.1 for PC is 600 MB.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">That fancy "video game" interface must be really something if it really is a 600mb intallation file. The entire 5.1 disc including demo files, demo plug ins and help files is only 322mb.

Having said all that customer service over the phone has always been pretty good for me. Their online help on the other hand has never given me a useful answer.

In re: basschair, you're right. Maybe in my deranged state of mind I didn't see that. But 440Mb?!? C'mon now. I've downloaded porn movies bigger than that. . .

I still do feel that Digidesign should have an 800 number. . .

My apologies to all the executives at Digidesign who want to lace their Prada & Versace business suits with bonuses from the big money they save off of not having an 800 number.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm not a Digi employee, but in their defense, no other competing DAW manufacturer has a toll free number either. I guess they all figure if you can drop $400 to $45,000 on gear, you should be able to afford $0.05 per minute.

Like I told a previous poster, Digidesign started including the upgrade in mid-production run. Something I always suggest is opening the box IN THE STORE to insure you have what you need before leaving. Also, it's all about calling the right people, just contact the Customer Service Administration (CSA) and they'll make it happen. Just dial 10-10-321+1 then the number:

CSA Phone: 650.731.6198
9:00am – 4:30pm Monday – Thursday PST
9:00am – 3:00pm Friday PST

CSA Fax: 650.731.6384 (this is where to fax your registration)

CSA email: [email protected]

Hmmmm,

In the early days, digi did have an 800# and free tech support. I have lost track of what all digi is selling now, but it seems like a lot of what used to be free is now being sold. I have had both good and bad experiences with digi tech. support. They once even went so far as to send sales reps. to my Hollywood studio in the early 90's under the guise of checking out how satisfied I was with the, many, many systems I had purchased. After a night of drunken debauchery, with the digi crew, one of the younger, “cooler” guys pulled me aside and told me they were looking for pirated copies of SD II at my studio, that I had been reported as distributing them (it was untrue)…. Obviously by one of my less successful competitors dropped a dime. From then on I have had a somewhat less serene relationship with digi. I always have and always will post anonymously on the DUC as I also was told by a top digi rep. of the era, that digi keeps a black list of "troublesome customers"… and I was on it. It was a tiny company then and no one could have guessed digi would turn out to be the giant it is today.

One observation I have made during the years is that, sadly, greed and gouging the customer have become digidesign’s standard policy. If they can charge for anything, they will... I am amazed that the DUC isn't a subscription service! .......WOOPS! SORRY GUYS.

Regards
