Default Please help-

Hello- I am a pt Le User on a digi 001. For the last year I WAS using an older PIII with 512 Mg of ram and NOT a dedicated or even partitioned Harddrive . I recorded with NO problems or crashes and the only time I ran into problems was when applying way too many real time Plugs.

A week ago I bought a new PC with the following specs--

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 2.40 GHz *512KB L2 cache & 533 MHz FSB*
Intel 845G Chipset
60 GB HDD
256 MB DDR *PC2100*
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
40x Max. CD-RW Drive; 16x Max. DVD Drive; 3.5" 1.44MB FDD
AC '97 Audio <--- disabled
Intel Extreme Graphics 3D *1 AGP slot available*
6 USB ports, 1 Serial, 1 Parallel, 2 PS/2

I reformatted and added a second *my HD from my other PC* HD which I am using for PT files only.

I am getting constant - errors such as "held off interupts for too long" or increase HW buffer size.

I get these with one track or 10 tracks.

I changed my hard drive controllers from the Intel to the standard which was advised on the digidesign site. I am at a loss here!! The one thing I noticed last night was- my 001 card is IRQ 23 and there is also something else listed as 23- it shows NO conflicts and says all is running smooth-

HELPPPPP Please- It is soo frustrating to get 10 seconds into vox and lock up!

Thanks!
Michael

Looks like you are in a mess and I don't
have a quick answer. Try the process of elimination to narrow down the possible causes.
For example use the newest hard drive and take the old out for now. Eliminate any cards you can and try to disable any software you don't really need.
Check task manager to see if some process is loading the CPU. You should have 98% CPU when idle.

I'm not the best person to answer this either but my card is on IRQ 9 and is sharing with other things(one of the things its sharing with is questionable) but my unoptimized(except for no apps running in background) 1.7 gig Pentium running on XP Pro, Dell is doing very well. I would say try moving the card to a different slot and see if that does anything.

That system has integrated (motherboard) video, using system RAM.

Anybody else using that kind of video here? It could be causing contention for system memory. If you have another video card handy, you might want to try it, and disable the onboard video.

If your on-board video is taking RAM and you only have 256 mb's you may want to add another 256 mb's to help out, and/or use a separate video card and disable your on-board video as suggested above. Also, what RPM are your drives. If the one you added from your old system is only 5400 RPM, that too may be contributing to the problem. Each drive should also be on its own channel.

Cheers,

i get that error once and a while too.... Have you tried going to
Setups>Playback Engine> then changing the sample size under H/W Buffer Size....

I get them saying that it needs to be higer and i get them that says they need to be lower....
I dont get them that often and it is easy to fix....

I mentioned the onboard video above. A couple other things come to mind:

- check that your drives are using DMA (Device Manager). You really want DMA
- check if your system is swapping (Task Manager -> Performance, 'pyhsical memory - available'). Virtual memory, aka swapping, is very bad for performance, and is easily avoided.

i had this ridiculous message of increasing and decreasing the HWbuffersize too. things that should help:
-fast drives ( 5400rpm won't do)
-seperate audiodrive
-don't let the DIGIcard share IRQ with anything!
force it in the bios to the most prior free IRQ. check it in the manual of the mobo.
-go to conf>system>devicemanager>advanced>prestation>adva nced and put system cache on the same value, for example 512/512. this will make the virtual memory jump less.
greettzz.
